With their 100% record continuing after a 5-0 win at Fortuna Dusseldorf, Bayern are now five points clear of newly promoted Eintracht Frankfurt, who won 3-1 at home to Hannover. Schalke are third after stunning Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 win at the Westfalenstadion, which means the champions are twelve points behind Bayern and the title race may already be over now for this year.
Elsewhere Bayer Leverkusen were held 2-2 by Mainz, Stuttgart won 1-0 at Hamburg and Werder Bremen beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-0.
In Italy the top of the table clash between Juventus and Napoli was won 2-0 by the former, who claimed an impressive and comfortable victory. That means they are now three points clear of Napoli. Inter Milan closed the gap on them with a 2-0 win over Catania, whilst AC Milan lost again, 3-2 at Lazio. Roma came from behind to beat Genoa 4-2.
It was a weekend of comebacks in the Premier League. Chelsea were 2-1 down but beat Tottenham 4-2 to stay top of the league, while Manchester United also trailed early on at home to Stoke before winning by the same score. Manchester City were 1-0 down to West Brom late on but came back with 10 men to win 2-1. Everton drew 1-1 at QPR and Arsenal lost 1-0 at Norwich. Liverpool beat Reading 1-0.
In Spain Barcelona remain top of the league after beating Deportivo La Coruna 5-4 in a thrilling game at El Riazor, Leo Messi scoring another hat trick. Real Madrid also won, 2-0 at home to Celta Vigo, to keep up the pressure but are still eight points behind Barca as well as city rivals Atletico Madrid, who won 1-0 at Real Sociedad. Valencia beat Athletic Bilbao 3-2, Malaga won 2-1 against Real Valladolid.
In France Paris St Germain are now top after beating Reims 1-0 at home at the weekend. That meant they went ahead of Marseille, who lost by the same score at Troyes. Lyon beat Brest 1-0, Ajaccio and Bastia drew 0-0 in the Corsican derby, while Lille drew 1-1 at Bordeaux. Lorient’s unbeaten run was brought to a shuddering halt as they lost 6-1 to Valenciennes. Champions Montpellier lost 2-1 to Rennes.
Olympiakos are another team with a perfect record after beating Xanthi 4-0 in Greece, their seventh win in a row. They are five points clear of PAOK Salonika, who won 1-0 against bottom of the league AEK Athens. Panathinaikos, who drew 1-1 at home to Aris Saloniki, are struggling in mid table.
Twente remain top of the Dutch league despite a 1-1 draw at Roda JC, while PSV are second after beating Willem II 3-2. Vitesse won 3-0 at NAC Breda, and champions Ajax are fourth following a 3-3 draw with Heracles. AZ lost 2-0 at home to NEC, and Feyenoord beat VVV Venlo 3-2.
Anzhi Makhachkala are still top in Russia after beating Spartak Moscow 2-1, Zenit beat Kuban Krasnodar 1-0, Terek Grozny won 1-0 at Amkar Perm, CSKA Moscow won 2-0 at home to Rubin, Dynamo Moscow beat Saransk 2-1 away and Lokomotiv Moscow drew 0- 0 at Rostov.
In Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk came from behind to maintain their long unbeaten run, beating Illichivets 2-1, their 12th win out of 12 in the league so far. Dynamo Kiev lost 3-1 at home to Metalist Kharkiv, meaning Dnipro remain second after losing 3-2 to Zarja.
In Brazil the title race was re-awakened after Atletico Mineiro beat Fluminense 3-2, a late winner meaning they moved six points behind the Rio giants. Gremio are still third despite a 0-0 home draw with Coritiba. Palmeiras beat Cruzeiro 2-0 to help move away from danger, Corinthians drew 1-1 at home to Bahia, and Flamengo won 1-0 at home to Sao Paulo.
