Arsenal look set for a sixth consecutive year without a trophy after a series of poor results in recent weeks, but Wenger pointed to the fact that rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have huge debts, with the latter two technically bankrupt, and only kept afloat by the continued ‘life support’ of their billionaire owners, and Wenger pointed out the irony before his team’s game with Bolton on Sunday.
Wenger said: “In a world where all teams are bankrupt, the man who spends nothing is called an idiot. Our squad is on average 23 years old. We chose to develop our own players, because players like Cristiano Ronaldo are not feasible. Our philosophy is to build our own team.”
