Should Chelsea win the match they will be nine points ahead of United.
Wenger told the Sun: “It is too early to say if the game between Manchester United and Chelsea will be significant in the title race.
“But when you’re in a situation like those two teams are, you never want to be too far behind because you never know if the team in front of you will drop points.
“That creates a little bit of anxiety because you are not the master of the outcome of the league.”
Wenger added: “It would be a significant gap but eight points is manageable and don’t forget that Man United will have played at Liverpool and at Chelsea and still have to play them both at home.
“There’s plenty of room for them still to recover.”
