Mertesacker has recently been linked with a move to Premier League side Arsenal.
Schaaf told Sky Sports News: “You know, now we are in the time of speculation.
“At the moment the league doesn’t play so everybody is looking for some news and what could happen.
“So you can be sure Per Mertesacker will play for Werder Bremen.”
