The 33-year-old insists he will only leave Werder Bremen for a club outside the Bundesliga.
“I would not consider a change within the Bundesliga,” he told der Welt.
“The USA would interest me. I am a fan of America, and New York is my dream city.”
He added: “I definitely have one or two years of football left in me. I am physically fit and well on it. Werder Bremen, for sure, will be my first point of contact.”
