Wheater told the Evening Gazette: “I will look back on good memories, and am disappointed that I can’t finish the season with Darlington – unless I get in the Boro side.
“I will go and watch Darlington home games when I can, and will be prepared to go out on loan again if necessary, because I might not get a first team chance in a hurry.
“But Boro have said that my chance will come if I grow up a bit. Boro staff, especially Steve Agnew and Malcolm Crosby, have watched me at Darlington home games, and we have discussed how I have played.”
