Whelan told the Sunday Mirror: “Paul Jewell is here for as long as he wants to stay.
“But if a big club came in for him and it was what he wanted, then I’d shake his hand, thank him for what he had done for Wigan Athletic, and I’d wish the guy all the best for the future.
“Paul has committed himself to the club for another four years. We’re delighted with that because as far as we’re concerned he is simply the best.
“He’s an absolute pleasure to work with. But I have this fear that another club will come in for him.”
