The 30-year-old defender has signed a contract that will keep him in Amsterdam until 2011.
“It’s very flattering to see how far Ajax went to sign me. I’m very happy that the transfer is a done deal now. I can fully focus on my future at Ajax from now on,” said Wielaert on Ajax’s official website.
“It’s a shame that I couldn’t join the rest of the team on Ajax’s training camp to Portugal. That would have been the perfect opportunity to get to know each other a bit. However, I’m looking forward to my first training session on Wednesday.
“I’m fully match fit, so I’m available for the league match against NEC on Sunday. Nevertheless, it’s up to the coach to decide whether he’ll use me already.
“Ajax are the biggest team in the Netherlands and I’m looking forward to fighting for the title. Winning silverware is an absolute dream for me and I’m full of confidence that I’ll be successful with Ajax.”
