The Mirror reports that Sunderland made a move to buy N’Zogbia on Thursday, but was told that the winger’s asking price had increased from the £9million that Wigan had agreed to sell the player for to Birmingham in the last transfer window.
Whelan said: “We don’t want to sell him, we’ve no plans to sell him and we haven’t received any offers at this stage.
“I’ve always said to Charles if a top-six club comes in for him, he can speak with them. We’ll never stand in a player’s way. We don’t want to sell him, we’ve no plans to sell him and we haven’t received any offers at this stage.
“There’s no chance of him going anywhere on loan but if he is to go, it has got to be for the right money. He’s an outstanding player, he has wonderful pace.”
Wigan are desperate to keep N’Zogbia at the club, as they are currently in the middle of a Premier League survival battle.
Liverpool are also reportedly keeping tabs on N’Zogbia’s situation.
