He said: “Too often this season we have handed the advantage to our opponents.
“We have conceded goals just before half-time in so many games and that is always a crucial moment – to let someone score then is a killer.
“But I think the reaction to the Arsenal defeat was evident for everyone to see at Middlesbrough two weeks ago. That game was, for me, the first time this season we have gone away and controlled the game.
“If we go to Wigan with this same mentality and confidence in our play then we will not have to talk about winning away from home again. And that would be very nice for everyone.”
