Rossi is currently on loan with the Toons.
Shearer revealed: “The team has got only two goals in seven league games. But I really do not know how Glenn Roeder can be blamed.
“He has been without his main three strikers and is now asking a 19-year-old lad in Giuseppe Rossi to lead the line.
“I was playing golf with Gianfranco Zola recently and he is involved with the Italian Under-21s of which Rossi is a part.
“He insists Rossi has a great future but it is tough for him to be carrying the load of expectation now. Newcastle could even lose him in January because he is only on loan until then from United.”
